Admiral of the Fleet Sir Gerard Henry Uctred Noel GCB, KCMG (5 March 1845 – 23 May 1918) was a Royal Navy officer.
Noel joined the Royal Navy in 1859.[1] In 1889 he became Captain of the battleship HMS Temeraire and in 1891 he took command of the battleship HMS Nile.[1] He became Junior Naval Lord in 1893.[1] In 1898, he became Second-in-Command of the Mediterranean Fleet[1] and led a force to Crete to take part in punitive operations after a massacre of Christians.[2] He went on to be Junior Naval Lord in 1893.[1]
He was made Superintendent of Naval Reserves and Commander-in-Chief of the Home Fleet in 1900.[1] He became Commander-in-Chief, China Station in 1904 and Commander-in-Chief, The Nore in 1907.[1] He was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet in 1908 and he retired in 1915.[1]
He is buried in the churchyard of St Martin's at Fincham in Norfolk.
In 1875 he married Charlotte Rachel Frederica Cresswell; they went on to have two daughters and one son.[3]
